Antique Staffordshire Dog Pair of King Charles Spaniels, Blue Flow Ironstone With Floral Detail circa Late 19th Century

Antique Staffordshire Dog Pair of King Charles Spaniels, Blue Flow Ironstone With Floral Detail circa Late 19th Century

Wonderful pair of antique Victorian Staffordshire Pottery King Charles Spaniel figurines, circa late 19th Century. These were made in the sought after version with separated legs and flat backs, great on a mantel or book shelf. Delightful facial expression with yellow eyes and black noses. Beautiful flow blue / cobalt blue coloring and lovely white and blue flower decor. The two dogs are a matched pair, but are slightly different in size, shape (see top of heads, fur details), their hand painted details. This Spaniel Wally Dog pair was made using press molds - not slip casted, as modern reproductions are. There are no holes in the base, which is a sign of slip cast pieces. Instead you can find a small hole in the back, which is a firing hole (see photos). Firing holes were made to release expanding gas which builds up inside hollow figures during firing. Very good vintage condition. No breaks, hairlines or repairs. One of the dogs has a small flake to the back of head which is shown in one of the photos (not visible when it's standing). Both pieces have general crazing
