Staffordshire Pottery Pearlwear of a Medici Lion Circa 1820

Dated to 1810-1820 Staffordshire England

Staffordshire pottery figure of a Medici inspired Lion modelled to an oblong base with a paw resting on a sphere.  The figure is well modelled and decorated with enamels.  Lions are the national symbol of England and were a popular subject line in the late 18th and early 19th Century.  The burgeoning growth of Empire and strong national pride after many military victories over the French gave extra significance to the symbolism.

There is  a very small chip on the base of the front of one and a hairline crack on the base
